James Maddison keeping Newcastle United on hold for Tottenham Hotspur or Arsenal move
According to Football.London, Tottenham Hotspur hold a long-standing interest in Leicester City midfielder James Maddison, with Arsenal also keen on a move.
Sky Sports claimed yesterday that Newcastle United made a £50million offer for the Foxes star, but Brendan Rodgers’ side is holding out for a bid in the region of £60million.
And now, transfer expert Dean Jones has stated that Maddison could be averse to moving to St. James’ Park because he prefers a move to one of the two North London giants. He said on The Done Deal Show (h/t Football.London):
“James Maddison has had an approach from Newcastle, The offer Newcastle have put to Leicester isn’t enough and they have to decide whether or not to bid again.”
“They’ve not been encouraged to bid again and I don’t get any signs that Maddison actually wants to join Newcastle; from what I hear Maddison wants to join Tottenham or Arsenal.”
It is said that the player prefers to move to a club that is playing in the UEFA Champions League. That already gives Spurs a clear advantage in the race for the England international.
It was Spurs’ 3-0 win against the Gunners back in May that really sealed the Gunners’ fate, who looked favourites to make the top four a few months before that. But instead, we are playing in Europe’s finest competition instead.
It isn’t a surprise to see Newcastle chasing Maddison. Backed by their new owners from Saudi Arabia, they harbour big dreams of making themselves a top club once again – perhaps one that falls in the bracket of the ‘big six’.
The Foxes, ever since their Premier League title win under Claudio Ranieri, have dreamt of this as well, but the Magpies have the resources to help them realise their goal even quicker. It remains to be seen what happens in this transfer saga.

A move to Spurs would please our fans to a big extent, especially after the summer we’ve already had in terms of new signings. Maddison would be the cherry on top of an already well-iced cake.
