According to Football.London, Tottenham Hotspur Under-21 player Kion Etete is undergoing medical at Cardiff City ahead of his permanent move to the Championship side.

The 20-year-old centre-forward caught the attention of a number of clubs following an impressive last season. But the Bluebirds have won the race for the forward with his signature being worth £500,000 plus add-ons.

Etete joined the Spurs youth academy from Notts County in 2019. He spent the first half of last season on loan at Northampton and the second half at Cheltenham.

He enjoyed good spells at both the clubs last season. The 20-year-old scored three goals in 17 appearances in League Two and then scored three in 13 appearances in League One. This was his first taste of senior football, and he did not disappoint.

But with fellow strikers such as Troy Parrott and Dane Scarlett ahead of him in the pecking order, Etete’s future looked to have been blocked. He has decided to instead leave and ply his trade elsewhere.

A fine striker, he would have become exceptionally good had he stayed. It is understandable why he left, but he could have stayed back and fought for a place on the team.

With senior striker Harry Kane not getting any younger, the youth players have a chance to step up their game. There is nothing better than having a home-grown player go on to become a club legend.

More Tottenham News:

Etete, meanwhile, will hope that he will be involved against Reading this weekend. If not, then he could make his debut next Tuesday in a Carabao Cup tie against Portsmouth. Spurs fans and management will hope that they did not err in letting the player leave.
