Transfer News: AS Roma reject Tottenham Hotspur’s approach for Nicolo Zaniolo

According to Calciomercato via Sport Witness (h/t Football.London), AS Roma have rejected Tottenham Hotspur’s request for information regarding Nicolo Zaniolo.

The Italy international is one of the most exciting playmakers in Serie A who can play in various positions. Zaniolo is largely deployed as a right-winger under Jose Mourinho.

However, he is adept at playing as an attacking midfielder as well as a second-striker. His physique also makes him a hard man to contain for defenders while his nimble dribbling skills help him create attacking opportunities for his team.

It is easy to see why Spurs would want a player like him. He is versatile and young – his ceiling knows no limit and under a manager like Conte, he can really explode onto the scene.

What next for Zaniolo?

Paulo Dybala’s arrival at Stadio Olimpico this summer could create added competition for starts but it seems I Giallorossi are adamant that they want to sell him for a fee that is near £50million.

Spurs are apparently unwilling to match that fee. After the summer they’ve had, it is perhaps a wise call to not go all out for the former Inter Milan player just yet.

They have a number of expendable players on the team. Giovani Lo Celso, Harry Winks, Tanguy Ndombele, and Japhet Tanganga can fetch the club decent money if they manage to leave the club permanently this summer.

Spurs have signed Richarlison from Everton. Finally, Harry Kane has a centre-forward partner good enough to play alongside him in attack on a regular basis.

Even if we don’t sign Zaniolo, it wouldn’t be the end of the world. There are enough quality forwards in the club for us to last the next season.
