Injury News: Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte confirms Oliver Skipp will miss Southampton tie
Speaking in his press conference earlier today (h/t Football.London), Antonio Conte has confirmed that Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Oliver Skipp will miss the clash against Southampton.
The midfielder suffered a hairline fracture in his heel after jumping into a challenge at Hotspur Way. He will now be on the sidelines for a couple of weeks and is sure to miss the Premier League opener against the Saints. Conte said:
“At the moment we only have one player who will definitely miss Southampton and that is Skipp. Bissouma, another day [before the game] still, nothing serious, but I don’t want to take a risk with anyone for the next games.”
Yves Bissouma is also a doubt for the game and going by Conte’s words, it seems that he will judge whether the Mali international is fit to play in the coming hours. Spurs come on the back of a good spell in the transfer window.
Who can Spurs start vs Southampton?
They made six signings to strengthen themselves all over the pitch. Bissouma was one of them, who has joined the Lilywhites from Brighton and Hove Albion.
Rodrigo Bentancur would then be expected to start on Saturday at N17 when Spurs open their league campaign against Ralph Hassenhuttl’s side. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg continues to remain one of the first names on the team sheets for the Italian manager.
It is, of course, not confirmed what line-up Conte will play, but it is safe to assume that the Denmark international will play a part against his former club. As for Skipp, he was unlikely to start the game either way.

The 21-year-old has made a big impression at Spurs but going by what happened last season, Conte seemingly doesn’t trust him to be a regular starter just yet. Hopefully, his injury doesn’t impact his playing style in the short and the long term.
