Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur and AS Roma £10m apart in Nicolo Zaniolo valuation
According to Ben Jacobs of CBS Sports, Tottenham Hotspur and AS Roma are £10million apart in the valuation of Nicolo Zaniolo.
I Giallorossi value that 23-year-old at £50million – a price that Spurs are unwilling to pay as of now. Jacobs then goes on to add that the player is himself open to a move.
Daniel Levy and co, however, are in no rush to sign the former Inter Milan star. Outgoings remain the priority for the club; it makes sense as well, as recouping some money from sales to then spend on another incoming will help us balance the books.
The journalist doesn’t rule out a Spurs player going to Stadio Olimpico before the end of the transfer window as well. He mentions that Roma manager and ex-Spurs boss, Jose Mourinho, likes defender Japhet Tanganga.
What should Spurs do?
Spurs would be wise to throw in a player in the deal, especially one as expendable as Tanganga. The Englishman may be a talented player, but it is clear that Antonio Conte does not plan to use him a lot.
The 23-year-old Tanganga played only 739 minutes of Premier League football last season, despite Conte deploying a formation with three centre-backs and left-sided centre-half Ben Davies being a natural left-back.
It remains to be seen if Spurs formalise their interest in Zaniolo. The versatile Italian can play as a right-winger, a central attacking midfielder, as well as just behind the striker.

We did sign Richarlison from Everton this January for a fee of around £60million. However, it is hard to say no to a player like Zaniolo, who is yet to reach his peak years and is of a solid age profile.
