Richarlison sends message to Tottenham Hotspur after missing Southampton clash due to flare incident

Richarlison sat out of Tottenham Hotspur’s Premier League clash against Southampton yesterday. The Lilywhites won 4-1 against the Saints and currently sit on top of the Premier League table on goal difference.

The Brazilian star was suspended by the FA for the game against Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side after he was charged for throwing a flare in the stands during Everton’s win against Chelsea last season.

Spurs ran out 4-1 winners at home despite trailing to a 12th-minute volley from James Ward-Prowse. Ryan Sessegnon equalised shortly after that goal before Eric Dier headed in Son Heung-min’s cross around the half-hour mark.

An own goal and a left-foot curler from Dejan Kulusevski in the second half wrapped up the result and meant precious three points for Conte’s men. Following the game, Richarlison took to Twitter to congratulate his teammates on the result.

Where does Richarlison fit?

The former Everton star cost Spurs £60million with add-ons this summer. Being our headline signing this summer, it remains to be seen if Conte sees him as a regular first-team starter.

Harry Kane and Son Heung-min are virtually untouchable in the starting XI. Kulusevski was superb against the Saints, getting an assist and a goal from the right-hand side.

The question now remains where Richarlison fits into this front three. Perhaps, with the five-substitutions rule being introduced from this season, he could be a weapon that can be utilised from the bench.

However, that is something Richarlison would hope doesn’t become a long-term pattern. He would want to make a mark on the team as soon as possible and become a regular first-team starter.
