Tottenham Hotspur told only Yves Bissouma will be regular under Antonio Conte out of all summer signings

Antonio Conte has overseen the arrivals of six players at Tottenham Hotspur this summer. The club started off their transfer business by getting in Fraser Forster and Ivan Perisic on free transfers.

Deals for Richarlison, Clement Lenglet (loan), Yves Bissouma, and Djed Spence followed. The most expensive one of these was the Brazil international, who arrived from Everton for a fee of £60million.

However, according to Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher, only Bissouma will be a regular starter under Conte. He believes apart from the Mali international, Spurs would play more or less a similar starting XI as last season.

Writing in his column on the Telegraph (Subscription Required) [h/t the Express], Carragher opined:

“I am still unsure as to how much these signings have really improved the starting lineup. Bissouma is a quality midfielder, and I expect him to be a regular starter, but aside from him we might be looking at the same starting team that we saw in the second half of last season.”

Bissouma arrived from Brighton & Hove Albion for a fee that could exceed £25million with add-ons. The 25-year-old is in the prime years of his career and was surely signed by Daniel Levy, Fabio Paratici and Conte with a view of making him a regular starter.

However, it is hard to say Carra is completely right. Ivan Perisic is a very strong contender to be a regular starter for the Italian manager this season despite Ryan Sessegnon impressing against Southampton in a 4-1 win.

Sergio Reguilon could be on his way out and a player of Perisic’s status wouldn’t want to waste the last good years of his playing career warming the bench. Richarlison may find it hard to displace either Harry Kane, Son Heung-min, or Dejan Kulusesvki.

Djed Spence is one for the future, Clement Lenglet is only here on a loan deal, while Fraser Forster, at his age, can’t really be a long-term successor for Hugo Lloris. However, it is unfair to say they haven’t strengthened us – our team has a strong bench courtesy of these arrivals and that can’t be argued.
