Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur are on the verge of signing Ashley Phillips
According to the Daily Mail, Tottenham Hotspur are on the verge of signing Blackburn Rover centre-back, Ashley Phillips this summer.
Phillips is a highly promising centre-back and has already broken into Rover’s first team this season. Spurs director of football, Fabio Paratici is expected to give the green light for the deal to be completed.
Tottenham will have beaten rivals Manchester United and Chelsea for the signature of the 17-year-old. The highly-sought after player runs out of contract next year, meaning it was now or never for Blackburn.
The 6ft 4in centre-back was part of Rover’s development squad last season. He was very impressive with his performances. and made 11 appearances in the Premier League 2 last season, scoring two goals in the process.
This season he has been promoted to the senior team. He has also made two appearances for the first XI-one in the Championship and the other in the Carabao Cup. His potential arrival would make him the fourth defender to join the north London side this summer.
Djed Spence, Clement Lenglet and Destiny Udogie have all joined the side this season. Udogie though has been sent back on loan to his former side Udinese. Phillips also would likely have the same treatment.
It is highly unlikely that he would be made part of the senior team straight away. The player will either join the Spurs’ academy or be loaned back to his current side for the remainder of the season. These are the most likely scenarios to happen involving Phillips.
