Transfer News: Nottingham Forest are interested in Tottenham Hotspur defender Japhet Tanganga
According to the Daily Mail, Nottingham Forest are interested in signing Tottenham Hotspur defender Japhet Tanganga. He could become their 17th signing of the season.
It is understood that Spurs are holding out a fee of around £17 million for the 23-year-old centre-back. A Spurs youth academy product, he was promoted to the senior team in 2020.
But the newly promoted side is not the only one interested in the former England Under-21 centre-back. Current Italian champions AC Milan are in talks with Tottenham over a possible deal for the defender.
Tanganga had a decent start to the last season. But a serious knee injury in February forced him on the sidelines, and he has not featured for the club since. The 23-year-old managed to make 19 overall appearances last season.
Antonio Conte has added Clement Lenglet to his squad this season. His arrival has pushed Tanganga further down the pecking order. The player is likely to get fewer playing minutes this season, as compared to the last should he stay.
Spurs have spent heavily in the market this summer and are now looking to sell players to balance their books. A move to Forest will likely give him more playing time as compared to a move to Milan.
It remains to be seen what deal can be struck between Spurs and all the interested parties. With less than a week remaining before the market closes, it will be wise for all parties to sort their business out as soon as possible.
Conte will be happy with the way his team has started the season. Spurs travel to face Forest this Sunday. Which side of the dugout Tanganga sits in, if selected, remains to be seen.
