Tottenham Hotspur and Atalanta at loggerheads over Ruslan Malinovskyi transfer

Tottenham Hotspur and Atalanta have reached a standstill in a deal for Ruslan Malinovskyi due to the nature of the deal, according to Sky Sports’ transfer expert Lyall Thomas.

Spurs apparently want to sign the player on a loan deal, while the Bergamo-based outfit is insistent on the move being a permanent one. It is understandable why the problem is arising.

According to Transfermarkt, Malinovskyi has just one year left on his contract. Hence, he will become a free agent next year and Atalanta would know that this summer is a good chance to cash in on him if they want to get in any sort of transfer fees.

For Spurs, a loan move perhaps could be a financially wise move. It remains to be seen if they reach an agreement but Spurs cannot afford to sit quietly if they really want the 29-year-old midfielder.

What should Spurs do?

He is apparently unsettled in Atalanta and could be looking to leave the club this summer. He has featured in both of La Dea‘s Serie A games this month and made a tangible impact.

He came on for the last six minutes of regulation time and assisted a goal in his team’s 2-0 win against Sampdoria on opening day. He then scored in his team’s 1-1 draw against defending champions AC Milan.

Spurs already have a set midfield with Rodrigo Bentancur and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg with Yves Bissouma to add depth. Oliver Skipp would also expect minutes once he returns from his latest injury.

However, Malinovskyi’s versatility and experience can be crucial for Conte to increase his depth. He can be a potent option to bring off the bench and in cup games but only time will if the Serie A side and the north Londoners iron out their differences over a potential move for the former KRC Genk midfielder.
