Transfer News: Anthony Gordon prefers a move to Chelsea over Tottenham Hotspur
According to The Telegraph (subscription required) [h/t Express], Anthony Gordon prefers a move to Chelsea over Tottenham Hotspur. The Everton forward is also of interest to Newcastle United.
The two London-based clubs are linked with a move for the 21-year-old. Chelsea have been the front runners, but Spurs are said to be planning to hijack the deal. The Blues are understood to offer as much as £60 million for the player.
Gordon is keen to switch to a side that plays Champions League football to facilitate his chances of having a place in the England squad for the World Cup in November. This is something that even Tottenham can offer.
The 21-year-old broke onto the scene last season when he was one of the best players for the Toffees in an overall abysmal campaign. Everton flirted with relegation last season and narrowly avoided it after finishing 16th on the table.
Gordon made 35 league appearances for Frank Lampard’s side, scoring four goals and assisting another two. The England Under-21 international is a very versatile player who can play anywhere in the front three and also in the middle of the park.
Antonio Conte would love to have such a versatile player in his squad. He could be deployed in multiple positions while also helping in increasing the competition among squad members. But the player prefers to go to west London over north London.
But Tottenham could benefit from this. The 21-year-old is still relatively inexperienced. Plus, he is yet to play for the national team. Spending such a huge amount on such a player would not be considered very wise.

It remains to be seen if Spurs do manage to hijack the deal. Fans will hope that whether they get the player or not, their team comes out on top. With less than a week remaining before the window shuts, it remains to be seen where the player ends up.
