Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur have offered Harry Winks to AS Roma

According to sports journalist Nicolo Schira via Twitter, Tottenham Hotspur have offered AS Roma the chance to sign Harry Winks. He has been offered initially on a loan with the option to buy included.

The Englishman does not appear to be a part of Antonio Conte’s plans this season. He was not selected in the squad for any of our games till now, and that is very unlikely to change anytime soon.

The 26-year-old midfielder was not included in the pre-season squad earlier this year. He is one of the excess players in the squad that the club wants to get rid of before the window closes.

He was promoted to the senior team in 2016 but has struggled for regular game time. The defensive midfielder was unable to convince Conte to make a part of his squad for this season and with the World Cup coming up could do with an opportunity elsewhere.

Winks managed to make only 19 league appearances last season. The arrival of Yves Bissouma also does not help his cause as he is pushed further down the pecking order. It will be wise for the player to ply his trade elsewhere.

If he stays back, he is likely to get fewer minutes than even last season. Just 26, he still has a long career ahead. Moving to Roma could help him reignite his forgotten career. Former Spurs coach Jose Mourinho’s man-management could be very useful to the Englishman.

It remains to be seen if the Italian club shows any interest in the player. Conte will hope that he can find a solution for the midfielder with so less time remaining till the deadline day. It will just be very uneconomical to keep paying wages to a player who is hardly going to play.

Conte, meanwhile, will hope that his side can continue their good start to this season. The club has won seven of the nine points and will look to get another three points from the next game. Spurs travel to face newly promoted side Nottingham Forest this Sunday.
