Transfer News: Atletico Madrid open talks with Tottenham Hotspur for Sergio Reguilon

Atletico Madrid have opened talks with Tottenham Hotspur for Sergio Reguilon, according to Fabrizio Romano on Twitter.

The Spanish club apparently appreciate the 25-year-old and he could be an important part of manager Diego Simeone’s plans this season. That is the opposite of what he has experienced under Antonio Conte recently.

The Italian manager has firmly decided on Ryan Sessegnon and Ivan Perisic as our two favoured left-wing-backs. The Englishman started the first two league games this season, while the Croatia international started in our 1-0 win against Wolves last weekend.

Reguilon is clearly not part of our plans and Spurs have been eager to sell him. He was banished from first-team training along with three of his teammates earlier this month.

Out of the quartet, two have already sealed loan moves away from Spurs, with Giovani Lo Celso joining Villarreal and Tanguy Ndombele signing a contract with Napoli until the end of this season.

Harry Winks, meanwhile, is also close to leaving N17 and is apparently being pursued by Sampdoria, according to Romano himself. The transfer expert also mentions that Atletico are waiting to learn what happens with Renan Lodi.

As seen in Romano’s tweet above, Premier League newboys Nottingham Forest are keen on signing the Brazilian. The Tricky Trees were interested in signing Reguilon on a loan deal earlier this month, but it seems those links have cooled down.

It would be a good deal for all parties involved if the former Real Madrid man decides to join Los Colchoneros before the transfer deadline on September 1. Spurs could benefit financially while the player would get to play in the UEFA Champions League with the Spanish side.

More Tottenham News:

It remains to be seen how these negotiations go. Reguilon has spent two full years at the club since joining from Los Blancos in 2020, and has made 67 appearances for Spurs, scoring two goals and providing nine assists across all competitions.
