Spurs Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks has accepted to join Sampdoria on loan
Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks has accepted a deal to join Sampdoria on a loan transfer before the deadline on September 1, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The 26-year-old has been struggling for first-team action ever since Rodrigo Bentancur’s arrival. Spurs signed Yves Bissouma from Brighton and Hove Albion earlier this summer.
That has Winks dramatically fall down the pecking order. He is yet to feature in a single Premier League game for us this month.
Romano claims that the deal is set to be completed in the next few days and Winks will travel to Italy soon for the same. This won’t be the first time in history that Spurs do business with I Blucerchiati, given the fact that they permanently sold defender Reto Ziegler to them in the summer of 2007.
Good move for Winks
It was also Sampdoria which was Jurgen Klinsmann’s last club before he returned to Spurs on a free transfer in the winter transfer window of the 1997/1998 season.
Winks would hope to get more game time there under manager Marco Giampaolo. This could be a good chance for him to impress England manager Gareth Southgate before the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
It seems unlikely that he will make the cut as of now, but Jesse Lingard’s loan spell at West Ham United serves as evidence how a good few months can raise the reputation of a forgotten player to a huge extent.
