Cristian Romero has signed for Tottenham Hotspur on a permanent transfer
The official website of Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that the club have permanently signed Cristian Romero from Atalanta after getting the Argentine on a season-long loan from the Serie A outfit last summer.
After impressing in Italy with Genoa and La Dea, the North London side decided to get Romero and now he’s signed a contract till 2027. Since then, the 24-year-old has been one of the best centre-backs at the club.
The Copa America winner has made an immediate impact in the Premier League with his aggressive and commanding defending. The Argentine is also comfortable with the ball at his feet.
Romero featured 30 times for the North London side in the previous campaign. The Argentine was an essential part of Antonio Conte’s XI. Spurs ended in the top four, winning 10 of the last 14 games in the PL.
Romero started the new season in fine form as well. The Argentine was solid against Southampton and Chelsea. However, the defender has been sidelined due to injury and did not play against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Nottingham Forest.
The Argentine had similar issues in the previous campaign. While the 24-year-old has put in brilliant displays, Conte has had to contend with Romero not being available at times.
Tottenham have made a bunch of signings this summer to improve squad depth. Clement Lenglet has been added to bolster the backline.
Spurs have other options to come in when needed. Davinson Sanchez and Ben Davies have been regulars in the gaffer’s starting lineup. Davinson Sanchez and Japhet Tanganaga have been the backups.
