Japhet Tanganga to stay at Tottenham Hotspur this summer
Tottenham Hotspur defender Japhet Tanganga is set to stay at Spurs this transfer window, with the North London side blocking the 23-year-old’s potential move away from the club, according to football.london.
Top European sides like AC Milan and AS Roma have shown interest in acquiring the England U21 international’s services. Newly promoted side to the Premier League Nottingham Forest have also been linked with the Tottenham academy product.
For now, the North London side have decided to keep Tanganga unless there are any last-minute change of plans on deadline day.
The 23-year-old came up through the youth ranks at Tottenham and broke into the first team in the 2019/20 campaign. Since then, the defender has seen his stock rise. The England U21 international is a versatile defender capable of playing as a centre-back and a full-back.
However, Tanganga’s development at Spurs has been hampered by injuries over the years. The 23-year-old has found it hard to establish himself in the North London side’s XI as a result.
The England U21 international picked up an injury in the second half of last season. Antonio Conte was giving the defender minutes on the pitch before he was sidelined.
Our backline was affected badly in the previous campaign. Cristian Romero also found it hard to remain fit. And the 2022/23 season has started on a similar note for the Argentine. As such, Davinson Sanchez has replaced him in the XI with Tanganga on the bench.
Fortunately, Spurs have been able to count on Eric Dier and Ben Davies to play regularly. Clement Lenglet has also arrived from Barcelona to provide much-needed depth to the backline.

Keeping Tanganga for the season is wise. Most Tottenham first-team stars are established internationals. With the World Cup in Qatar around the corner, having options on the bench to deal with fatigue and injuries is essential.
