Spurs Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur enter into talks with Chelsea to sign Hakim Ziyech
According to Spanish outlet Revelo (h/t Evening Standard), Tottenham Hotspur have entered into talks with Chelsea to sign Hakim Ziyech.
It is claimed that the Blues have dropped their valuation for the 29-year-old to £21million. The versatile playmaker is struggling to get minutes under manager Thomas Tuchel.
He has managed to garner just 116 minutes of Premier League action this season. It is clear that the Moroccan is not an untouchable part of Tuchel’s first-team set-up.
His current contract at Chelsea is set to expire in the summer of 2025 (Transfermarkt). Spurs don’t desperately need a player like Ziyech but he could be a useful signing nonetheless.
Ziyech to Spurs?
The price being quoted above isn’t exorbitant and he could play in manager Antonio Conte’s midfield, and even out wide on the right-hand side. Ryan Sessegnon and Ivan Perisic have played as attacking wingers in the past.
If Conte can utilise them as left-wing-backs in his system, there is no reason to say Ziyech can’t be played in a similar role. Emerson Royal has had a decent start to the season, however, but even he can use competition.
In that regard, Spurs have signed Djed Spence this summer from Middlesbrough. Spurs have also seen three midfielders leave the club on loan.
Harry Winks has joined Sampdoria, Tanguy Ndombele is at Napoli, and Giovani Lo Celso has signed a temporary contract with Villarreal. Their long-term futures aren’t sorted but Spurs have at least managed to offload them for the time being.

It remains to be seen if we see this transfer for Ziyech go through. It is always a surprise to see arch-rivals do transfer business directly but we have seen players arrive from Chelsea before, with Gustavo Poyet, Frode Grodas and Jason Cundy being some ancient yet relevant examples.
