Sergio Aguero names Tottenham Hotspur as Champions League dark horses
Former Manchester City legend Sergio Aguero has named Tottenham Hotspur as the dark horses in the Champions League this season.
Spurs have been pitted in Group D this time out, with Marseille, Eintracht Frankfurt and Sporting making up the group. And Aguero believes that with Antonio Conte at the helm, Spurs pose a serious threat.
In an interview quoted by the Evening Standard, the City legend gave his opinion on how he believes Spurs to fare this time out.
Now with Conte, a coach with a lot of experience, they are managing to be a very solid team. He knows how he wants to play and his counterattack can be lethal. [Spurs] will be a very difficult rival for any team. They could be a big threat in Europe this year.
Spurs qualified for the Champions League on the last day of last season. The north London club returns back to the prestigious European tournament after a gap of two seasons.
The Lilywhites begin their new campaign by hosting French side Marseille this Wednesday. And fans will hope that their side gets off to a perfect start.
Tottenham are yet to win the cup. They came very close in 2019 but ended up on the losing side against Liverpool. Conte will hope to break that run for the club and also his own.
Surprisingly, the Italian coach has never lifted the trophy in his trophy-laden coaching career. Maybe this year could be the year when both the club and coach break their respective deadlocks.
