Tottenham boss Antonio Conte gives Lucas Moura injury update for Marseille clash
Manager Antonio Conte has ruled out Tottenham Hotspur attacker Lucas Moura for the opening UEFA Champions League group-stage clash against Olympique de Marseille on Wednesday night.
Speaking at the press conference before the game (h/t Football.London), the German manager gave an update on the Brazil international’s situation:
“Moura is not available, not still available. I think tomorrow he starts to have a training session on the pitch. He has this inflammation in his tendon and I hope to recover him very soon because especially up front we need him.”
Lucas came on for very few minutes in our opening two games of the season. He has since not played a single minute in Spurs’ last four league games.
Moura still not back
He missed the London derbies against Fulham and West Ham United due to injury (Transfermarkt). It is an ode to Tottenham’s attacking depth that the Brazilian’s absence isn’t a massive blow.
Richarlison and Dejan Kulusevski seem like the two players that will battle it out amongst themselves to fight for a position in our attack alongside the imperious Harry Kane and the world-class Son Heung-min.
Beyond those names, Ivan Perisic is more than capable of playing as a winger on either flank. Hopefully, Lucas is back soon. Conte did say the former Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) could begin training on the pitch tomorrow.
