Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur wanted to sign Marcelo Brozovic from Inter Milan in January
According to Football.London, Tottenham Hotspur wanted to sign Inter Milan’s Marcelo Brozovic in the January transfer window earlier this window before they struck a deal for Rodrigo Bentancur.
Spurs ended up signing the Uruguay international from Juventus in the closing stages of the window after a deal for the Croatian star did not materialise. Brozovic would have been a smart option for us considering he had played under manager Antonio Conte.
They combined to win the Scudetto with I Nerazzurri in the 2020/21 campaign. Bentancur, however, has proven to be a smart acquisition for us nonetheless.
His arrival has given Conte a midfield pairing he can rely on, with the ever-reliable Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Bentancur starting most of our games. The likes of Harry Winks, Giovani Lo Celso, and Tanguy Ndombele have been sent out on loan this summer.
What should Spurs do now?
Our midfielder could, in all honesty, use another addition despite the acquisition of Yves Bissouma from Brighton & Hove Albion. The three names mentioned have been allowed to leave temporarily, which shows how less Conte trusts them to be in his starting XI right now.
Oliver Skipp’s injury kept him out of all our games in August but the young Englishman can be a good fourth-choice midfielder. Nevertheless, it is always wise to add another pair of legs in that area.
Dele Alli was also sold to Everton earlier this January. It remains to be seen if Conte and co will target a new midfielder in 2023 and if that could be the 29-year-old Brozovic- despite there being no indications of anything of that nature as of now.

It is clear that Hojbjerg, Bissouma, and Bentancur are a trio that our Italian manager likes. After all, he was the man in charge when we brought in two of those names. Whether he is still content with them by the time the next window arrives is something that only time will tell.
