Gus Poyet feels Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane is an all-rounder in comparison to Erling Haaland
Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Gus Poyet feels Harry Kane is a complete player when comparing him to prolific Manchester City striker Erling Haaland. Both centre-forwards have started the 2022/23 campaign on the front foot.
The England international recently became the player with the most goals for a single club in the Premier League after putting the ball in the back of the net against Wolverhampton Wanderers. It was also the 29-year-old’s 250th goal for the North London side.
Speaking to Midnite (h/t football.london), Poyet, who previously played for Tottenham for three years, feels Kane and Haaland are two distinct players, with each having their own strengths.
“They’re different players, one is a top goalscorer, Haaland will always be there in the box, waiting for a cross, mistake, pass, like a proper killer.
“Kane is a great football player, especially in the last few years, he’s started dropping and making things happen. Kane is an all-round football player, but I think Haaland is clear, you just know he’s going to score even if he touches the ball five times in a game.”
City’s summer signing has had a high-flying start to his career in Manchester. Haaland has already scored 10 goals in six Premier League appearances so far this campaign.
The Norwegian was signed by the Cityzens from Borussia Dortmund this summer. In Germany, the 22-year-old showed similar nous in front of goal. Haaland scored 86 goals in 89 appearances for the Bundesliga outfit in all competitions.
On the other hand, Kane has evolved his game over the years at Spurs. The 29-year-old had a breakout season in the 2014/15 campaign and has since then gone from strength to strength.
Under Jose Mourinho, the England international evolved his game and started dropping deeper. Subsequently, Kane has formed a brilliant partnership with Son Heung-min. Last season, the duo broke the record for the most PL goal combinations set by Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard.
Spurs were supposed to take on City on 10 September at the Etihad Stadium. However, the fixture was postponed following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
