Confirmed Tottenham Hotspur starting XI for clash vs Sporting CP

Tottenham Hotspur travel to Lisbon today to take on Sporting CP in the UEFA Champions League. The Lilywhites come into this game after a 2-0 win against Olympique de Marseille on matchday 1.

Richarlison scored a second-half brace to lead Spurs to a win on their return to UEFA’s premier club competition, while Sporting eased past German side Eintracht Frankfurt at home.

If the first matchday was anything to go by, Sporting and Spurs are the two teams that would be fancying their chances of qualifying from their group. However, Marseille and Frankfurt cannot be taken lightly either.

Spurs had a game against Manchester City postponed last weekend which was scheduled to take place at the Etihad on September 10. Speaking before the clash against Sporting, Conte revealed that this has “relaxed” him to a certain extent.

He said he could now pick strong teams for the game tonight and the one against Leicester City in the Premier League this weekend. Conte has picked his starting XI for the game against the Leoes, and it can be seen in the tweet from the official club account below:

Sporting have also revealed their starting XI for the day, and it features former Spurs youth academy player Marcus Edwards. Their lineup can be seen in the tweet below:

Conte has picked Richarlison over Dejan Kulusevski for two games in a row, whereby the Brazil international started in the league game against Fulham and in the CL game against Igor Tudor’s Marseille.

He has now gone with the same selection decision for the third game in a row. Harry Kane, Son Heung-min, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, and Hugo Lloris were always going to be picked in the XI, and they have been named in the starting lineup.
