Injury News: Tottenham star Lucas Moura not spotted in training despite Antonio Conte’s recent comments

Speaking in the pre-match press conference (h/t Football.London) before Tottenham Hotspur’s UEFA Champions League clash against Olympique de Marseille, Antonio Conte claimed that Lucas Moura could return to training on September 7.

He said on September 6:

“Moura is not available, not still available. I think tomorrow he starts to have a training session on the pitch.”

The match took place on the night of 7th September and Spurs went on to win 2-0 via two headers from Richarlison in the second half. Lucas expectedly did not feature in the matchday squad.

However, according to Football.London, the former Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) winger was once again missing from training. It remains to be seen what exactly is the reason behind his absence.

Lucas on his way back?

Common sense compels one to think that it could have something to do with the calf injury that has seen him miss several games this season. Spurs are set to face Sporting CP in Lisbon on Tuesday, September 13.

Lucas’ absence may not be felt right now, especially when naming the starting XI, as Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison are themselves locked in a battle to secure a starting spot alongside Son Heung-min and Harry Kane.

However, the Brazilian was used as a right-wing-back in pre-season and it remains to be seen if Conte deploys him there once again when he returns to injury. Hopefully, his rehab is going well.

More Tottenham News:

Spurs’ schedule, like those of several English teams playing in European competitions this season, is packed. Lucas’ presence would be important in that regard- be it from kick-off or from the bench as a substitute.
