Agent Stefano Antonelli admits Tottenham beat Inter Milan and Juventus for Destiny Udogie transfer

As relayed by Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, agent Stefano Antonelli admitted that Tottenham Hotspur beat Inter Milan and Juventus in the race to sign his client Destiny Udogie this summer.

The 19-year-old left-back signed for Spurs after they agreed to pay a fee of €20million plus €6million in add-ons. He has been loaned back to Udinese Calcio for this season and will join up with the first team next summer.

The Italy U21 international has already made a good impression in Italy. This season, he already has two goals from five games playing down the left flank for his team.

Antonelli’s admission that both Inter and Juve were after him shows how highly rated the player is. The agent told TuttoMercatoWeb (h/t Fabrizio Romano):

“Inter and Juventus wanted to sign him, it’s true — but Tottenham have decided to pay €20m plus €6m add-ons so it was not possible for other clubs. Spurs wanted him to stay in Italy on loan, it’s part of the strategy.”

Spurs currently have 33-year-old Ivan Perisic excelling down that flank, with Ryan Sessegnon also making a good impression. Sergio Reguilon’s future in manager Antonio Conte’s starting XI is up for debate.

The Spain international was allowed to join Atletico Madrid on loan this summer. Hence, Udogie could have a pathway set up for him in Conte’s team, with Sessegnon seemingly his only serious long-term competition as of now.

More Tottenham News:

Tottenham were also incredibly wise to sign the player in this manner as it now leaves them stress-free with regards to his future. Otherwise, we could have had to face competition for the teenager’s signature in the near future.
