Tottenham Hotspur News: Cristian Romero visa drama finally ends, set to play for Argentina vs Jamaica

Cristian Romero of Tottenham Hotspur was a big name missing for Argentina when they faced Honduras on Saturday at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.

That was due to the Argentine defender’s visa not coming through as the US Embassy in the UK suffered delays in paperwork after Her Majesty The Queen’s death on September 8. Hence, the former Atalanta centre-back was not in Argentina’s matchday squad on the day.

They did not miss him, in all honesty, and cruised to a 3-0 win with Lionel Messi scoring a brace. But it was never about the game itself.

With the FIFA World Cup less than just two months away, players and managers would have wanted to get some crucial training together before the event. In this regard, it was important for Romero to link up with his teammates in the USA.

Boost for Romero

Now, according to TyC Sports (h/t Football.London), Romero’s paperwork has come through and the defender will join his teammates in the North American country. He is also in line to play their next game.

The 1978 and 1986 FIFA World Cup winners face Jamaica on Wednesday, September 28 in New Jersey in an international friendly. German Pezzella and Manchester United’s Lisandro Martinez started as the defensive pairing against Honduras.

Hopefully, Scaloni starts Romero against the Jamaicans. Of course, Tottenham fans would have perhaps preferred if the 23-year-old’s chances for fatigue and injuries on international duty were minimized as much as possible.

But it is important for our number 4 to gel up with his team and get some minutes in before he becomes one of several superstars to represent Spurs on the biggest stage in world football.
