Jose Enrique praises Tottenham board for backing Antonio Conte with Ivan Perisic

Former Liverpool star Jose Enrique has taken to Twitter to praise the Spurs board for backing Italian tactician Antonio Conte in his decision to sign the Croatian wing-back Ivan Perisic this summer.

Spurs signed the 33-year-old Croatian from Inter Milan in the summer on a free transfer. The move was received with mixed emotions but it is safe to say that Perisic has put all those rumours to bed.

Although Perisic was not fit when he came to Hotspur Way, the former Bayern Munich star has worked hard to get up to speed and has really impressed in the opportunities he has gotten under Antonio Conte.

This is not the first time that Perisic is playing under the Italian tactician though. The duo worked together during their time at the Giuseppe Meazza and Conte would have known exactly what he was getting when signing the talented wing-back.

His influence is evidenced by the fact that the 33-year-old has the best cross-success rate in the Premier League with Perisic completing 48.3% of all the crosses that he has attempted until now.

That’s an astonishing success rate to have and it shows how effective Perisic can be. If almost one of every two crosses he attempts finds the target, then it is more likely to lead to dangerous situations for Spurs.

Conte has rotated Ivan Perisic and Ryan Sessegnon for the left wing-back spot since the start of the season and to be fair to both players, both of them have performed exceptionally well making life difficult for the Italian tactician.

It remains to be seen who eventually wins this battle as the starting left wing-back this season. It’s always good to have a problem of plenty, and Conte has a good selection headache on his hands.

More Tottenham News:

Perisic hobbled off in his last game for Croatia against Denmark in their 2-1 win but all the fears regarding a potential injury were assuaged when he was named in their starting lineup for their UEFA Nations League clash against Austria, which at the time of writing, is at 1-1 at half-time.
