William Gallas compares Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane to Robin van Persie
Former Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal defender William Gallas has compared Harry Kane with Robin van Persie.
The former defender was speaking ahead of the north London derby this Saturday. Speaking to Genting Casino (h/t football. london), the former French international made the comparison.
“He doesn’t always stay in front, which for the centre-back can be a little difficult, because he drops deeper to get the ball, and with his technique, he can find his teammates. Then when he’s in the box he’s a danger, because you never know which way he will go, right, left foot, he’s so strong with both feet, and his head. So I would put him on the same level as Robin van Persie.”
Van Persie joined Arsenal in 2004 from his boyhood Dutch club Feyenoord. The striker was one of the best in the Premier League during his time.
He went on to make 278 appearances for the Gooners in all competitions, scoring 132 goals in the process. He then moved to their rivals Manchester United in 2012. The striker would go back to his boyhood club in 2018 and announced retirement the following year.
Kane, meanwhile has established himself as one of the best strikers in the world today. A Spurs legend, the England captain has made 395 appearances for the north London club, scoring 254 goals in the process.
Being compared to Van Persie only shows the top level that Kane is at. A talisman for his club, the 29-year-old is a fan favourite after having been with them for most of his playing career.
The ever-reliable striker has been in phenomenal form this season. He has already scored six goals in seven league games for the Lilywhites this season. But it is the upcoming game that the 29-year-old would love to get on the scoresheet for.
