Rio Ferdinand says Antonio Conte will be disgusted with Tottenham’s Hugo Lloris and Emerson Royal in Arsenal loss
Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand believes Antonio Conte will be disgusted with Tottenham Hotspur’s Emerson Royal and Hugo Lloris after their north London derby loss against Arsenal.
The Lilywhites had the chance to go at the top of the table if they managed to beat the Gunners at the Emirates today. In all honesty, many would have even taken a draw after Thomas Partey scored a stunning opener.
Harry Kane equalised via a penalty just around the half-hour mark to keep the score at 1-1 at the half-time whistle. However, things really went awry for us after the break.
Bukayo Saka found space to shoot a shot straight at Lloris, who punched it straight into Gabriel Jesus’ path, with Cristian Romero not having enough time to react in front of him.
The game was well and truly buried after Emerson’s red card tackle on Gabriel Martinelli just after the 60-minute mark. Sending off or not, it was foolish lunging in like that and we paid the price for it.
Ferdinand believes Emerson and Lloris have let Spurs down and that Conte will be disappointed in the duo. Speaking after the game to BT Sport (h/t Metro), he said:
“I would love to be in changing room right now listening to what he [Antonio Conte] has to say because I think he will be disgusted with the red card, Emerson Royal, but also the goalkeeping from Lloris.”
“He will be disgusted with the two situations that cost them, the goalkeeper and the red card but also the first-half, they had opportunities to really punish Arsenal in the transition but it was the final pass wasn’t good enough.”
Such games just take a moment or two to decide the outcome and unluckily for us, two of our most reliable players this season let us down. Nevertheless, it isn’t the end of the world.

This was a tough game away at the Emirates and one that should take positives from. It now remains to be seen if this is the situation that propels Djed Spence into the starting XI or if Matt Doherty gets the nod in the upcoming domestic games.
