Jamie O’Hara bashes Emerson Royal and wants him out of Tottenham Hotspur
Speaking exclusively on talkSPORT EDGE via Twitter, former Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal player Jamie O’Hara has given his honest opinions on defender Emerson Royal and pleaded with the club to sell the Brazilian.
Emerson Royal moved to Spurs from FC Barcelona in 2021 under manager Nuno Espirito Santo after making just three appearances for the Spanish club.
Since then, he has appeared in 52 matches for the club but has failed to truly slot himself into the first team with his red card against Arsenal in the North London Derby a major turning point which took the game away from us.
O’Hara has bashed the defender and claims he would pay money from his own pocket to make the player leave the Lilywhites. He said:
“I would pay someone to take him off our hands. I ain’t got a lot in my bank but I’d give you £5m to get rid of this liability, because he is costing us every week.”
Antonio Conte’s use of wingbacks is very well-known and has contributed to his success with his spells at Chelsea and Inter-Milan and is deemed as a very important position in order to implement his way of play.
At Spurs as well, Conte has tried to implement a similar style of play since his appointment last season and hence the ability and skill demanded of a player are of high level and intensity, who is capable of running down both ends.
Unfortunately, Royal has not been able to impress many with the performances that can warrant him a starting place in the Spurs lineup.
It has been claimed that the Brazilian has spent almost £1million to improve his all-around game and some of the expenditure involves him purchasing a hyperbaric oxygen chamber to recover after games.
Applaud must be given for the player to accept his negatives and be willing to work on them. It is highly essential for him as well because there is increasing competition in the team for the right-wing back slot.
Matt Doherty started with a clean sheet to his name in the last league win against Brighton and would ideally start the next game. Djed Spence, on the other hand, only has one league appearance this season – against Nottingham Forest as a last-minute substitute.

Perhaps Emerson’s regularity this season does not have everything to do with his quality but the lack of quality options that Conte has at his disposal. The upcoming transfer windows will give us more clarity on this.
