“Hojbjerg and Bentancur will have to be wary”- Tottenham told to watch out for this Frankfurt star

Tottenham Hotspur duo Rodrigo Bentancur and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg told to be wary of Eintracht Frankfurt’s Mario Gotze

Eintracht Frankfurt’s Mario Gotze was a doubt for the game against Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday night in north London, but he is now deemed fit to feature in the game.

The German star was absent from Spurs’ 0-0 draw in Frankfurt last week but made a return for Die Adler against VfL Bochum in his team’s brutal 3-0 loss on Saturday. He was fit to start that game, so there’s no reason why he can’t do the same tomorrow.

Steffen Freund, who played for Spurs as a defensive midfielder for five years between 1998 and 2003, sat down for a chat with the official Spurs’ media team. He warned Tottenham, especially midfielders Rodrigo Bentancur and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, to be wary of Gotze:

“Gotze had a really good start to the season. He missed the game in Frankfurt but returned against Vfl Bochum at the weekend. With the ball, he’s one of the best players around, and he’s really fit now, he played a lot of games during his time at PSV, so he’s back to full fitness”

One of the best playmakers during his heyday at Borussia Dortmund, Gotze’s career took a slump. He left PSV Eindhoven for Frankfurt this summer and has been finding regular playing time under manager Oliver Glasner.

“He will help Frankfurt, because he will look to play the final pass, Hojbjerg and Bentancur will have to be wary, because Gotze can still make the difference.”

Now 30, Gotze still has a few tricks up his sleeve. Most notably known for his goal in extra time against Argentina that won Germany the FIFA World Cup in 2014, the ex-Bayern Munich star can make the difference in the final third.

More Tottenham News:

Not just him, but Frankfurt possess other players that we have to be wary of when they are in possession. Daichi Kamada is another able attacking midfielder capable of feeding balls into their forwards – with Lucas Alario, Randal Kolo Muani, and playmaker Jesper Lindstrom among their more prolific players this season.
