Frank Lampard dismisses claims regarding Everton’s ambitions from Tottenham ace Richarlison
Speaking in the pre-match press conference ahead of the Premier League clash between Tottenham Hotspur and Everton as quoted by Mirror, Everton boss Frank Lampard has rubbished the claims made by Spurs star Richarlison that his former club lack the ambition to compete for trophies.
Lampard has claimed that he would not be at the club if it lacked ambition and that as much as he loved the Brazilian star with whom he worked for a small period last season, he feels that the comments are a bit out of place.
Richarlison made the switch from Goodison Park to Hotspur Way in the summer and has had a decent start to life as a Spurs player. He has had an excellent impact off the bench and will want to win a starting place in the team.
The Brazilian has featured much more in recent weeks thanks to his good form but also because of an injury to Dejan Kulusevski. He is likely to start tonight’s clash against his former side if Antonio Conte decides to line up with a front three.
There is a chance that the Italian tactician decides to go with a 3-5-2 in the event of which, it seems unlikely that the Brazilian replaces either Harry Kane or Son Heung-Min, especially after the way the duo played midweek against Eintracht Frankfurt.
Speaking about his former player’s comments, Frank Lampard was quick to dismiss them and refute those claims.
“Every club is relative. If you’re talking about the here and now, I’m certainly ambitious. I wouldn’t be here if I wasn’t. I’m trying to build something. It’s clear to see Tottenham are in the Champions League and we’re not. In simple terms, that’s it”
Frank Lampard seemed to hint that his former striker’s comments got lost in translation and what he could be referring to was the fact that his current club are in the Champions League whilst Everton weren’t.
Richarlison will want to continue his good form with Spurs when he faces his former side and continue doing the same until the World Cup. The 25-year-old striker has established himself as first choice in the national team and will want to be ready for the showpiece event in Qatar.
