Gabby Agbonlahor says Tottenham Hotspur captain Hugo Lloris is overrated in one key area

Speaking exclusively on TalkSPORT Edge, former Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor has claimed that isn’t a big fan of Hugo Lloris and that the goalkeeper is overrated when it comes to his abilities on the ball.

He was doing a round of rapid-fire questions where he was choosing one of Spurs or Everton in various scenarios. One of these questions pitted Everton goalie Jordan Pickford against Lloris, to which the pundit replied:

“Pickford. I’m not a big fan of Lloris, to be honest. I don’t think he is as good as people think on the ball.”

Newsflash… most Spurs fans would tell you that while Lloris is an excellent goalkeeper, he isn’t the best in the world when it comes to playing with his feet or even his distribution.

He is what we could call a traditional goalkeeper. It has become increasingly important in the modern game that goalies be good with their feet – something which Alisson Becker and Ederson Moraes embody at Liverpool and Manchester City, respectively.

Lloris is now 35 and Spurs would be wise to start thinking about a long-term replacement. The France international cannot keep playing forever at this level and is in the final two years of his latest contract at N17.

As for Pickford, the England international is arguably in the prime years of his career. It was even claimed in May this year that Spurs were eager to sign Pickford, but nothing came of it.

Now, he has seen himself get linked with a potential move to Manchester United. The 28-year-old is expected to marshall Everton’s backline from between the sticks when the Toffees visit north London today (October 15).
