Antonio Conte has requested Tottenham Hotspur to sign Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, not Lautaro Martinez
According to journalist Enrico De Lellis via Calciomercato (h/t Express), Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte has asked Fabio Paratici to sign Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, amidst recent links with Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez.
Spurs were interested in the Argentina international and came close to signing him last year. However, nothing materialised after Chelsea signed Romelu Lukaku from I Nerazzurri.
De Lellis claims that Osimhen is the one that Conte wants at N17. However, he names Bayern Munich and Manchester United as potential competitors for the Nigeria international.
“There are rumours about Lautaro, but the real name that Conte told Paratici is Osimhen. The Napoli striker is also very popular with Bayern Munich and Manchester United, although the Germans closely follow [Benjamin] Sesko as well.”
Osimhen, who moved to Napoli from LOSC Lille Metropole in the summer of 2020, has made a big name for himself at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona. He has 32 goals and 10 assists for the club in 70 games across competitions.
The journo adds that he is the real goal of Tottenham.
“The Nigerian is the classic Premier League footballer and it turns out to be the real goal of Tottenham. But it will be necessary to understand his will; he is demanding for the future and not only from an economic point of view.”
Harry Kane is the subject of apparent interest from Bayern Munich and his contract, the one he is on currently, is set to expire in the summer of 2024. Hence, it’s smart to look for contingency plans in case he does leave.
Osimhen, 23, is a strong striker who knows how to finish. He has proven in France and Italy that he can lead the line for a top team.
He has age on his side and could be the next big thing in European football. It would be a really smart coup if we do end up signing him but one can imagine that Napoli may not make it easy or cheap for him to leave.
