Injury News: Antonio Conte says Dejan Kulusevski could be out for a long time at Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte has claimed that winger Dejan Kulusevski could be out for a while with his latest injury.
He suffered a hamstring injury last week and the Sweden international was not in our matchday squad to take on Manchester United in our 2-0 loss at Old Trafford. The Italian boss says his recovery was going good – until it wasn’t.
He said at a press conference before tomorrow’s game against Newcastle United (h/t Evening Standard):
“His recovery was going well and then one day the situation worsened. When this type of situation happens, you have to restart. You need time.”
Lucas Moura is also recovering from a tendon injury and he could be on the bench once again for Spurs as they take on the Magpies. Conte thanked his lucky stars for Harry Kane and Son Heung-min’s fitness and said:
“Fingers crossed because at the moment we have Harry and Sonny in good health. I hope they stay that way or I’ll have to put my shoes on to play!”
Conte was a midfielder in his playing days and perhaps we are still better off without the 53-year-old on the pitch even if one of Kane or Son gets injured… jokes aside, the big problem could once again be the bench.
Against United, there were no real options to bring on that could affect the game in a positive manner for us. Conte made all his subs during and after the 82nd minute of the match due to a clear lack of options there.
Rushing back Lucas just to potentially aggravate his issue is another nightmare scenario. Hopefully, we don’t leave ourselves a mountain to claim against the Toons so that we have to desperately look at our bench for impact.

3-5-2 seems like the way to go especially if the Brazil internationals (Lucas and Richarlison) aren’t fit to make the starting XI. It remains to be seen if Conte gives a chance to Bryan Gil tomorrow in some capacity.
