Manchester United to battle Tottenham Hotspur for former Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham
Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United are keeping a close eye on former Chelsea star and current AS Roma striker Tammy Abraham after his impressive spell in Italy, as per Italian outlet Calciomercato (h/t Manchester Evening News).
Abraham was almost always overlooked during his time at Chelsea when Frank Lampard took over the helm. Things didn’t improve a lot when Thomas Tuchel became the manager.
As a result, Abraham was finally offloaded and Roma agreed to pay a fee of £36million. Since then, the Englishman has been manager Jose Mourinho’s first-choice striker up front.
He has 29 goals and eight assists in 67 games for I Giallorossi in all competitions. Manchester United and Tottenham would be aware that he could cost a pretty penny given his contract expires only in the summer of 2026 (Transfermarkt).
Chelsea’s loss could be Tottenham’s gain
Chelsea haven’t had the best luck with strikers. Timo Werner set the Bundesliga with his form but returned to RB Leipzig this summer after two subpar seasons at Stamford Bridge.
Romelu Lukaku’s lethal goal-scoring form at Inter Milan dissipated to some extent when he returned to Chelsea last year. He has now been loaned out after an average first season at the club.
Abraham could have been the striker they could have fallen back upon this summer instead of signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Barcelona on deadline day. Nevertheless, their loss could be our gain.
Abraham knows all about Premier League football and at 25, is in the prime years of his career. One potential problem could be the €80million buyback clause that Chelsea inserted in his contract once he left the club for Italy.

It remains to be seen if they will ever end up exercising that. For Tottenham, this could be a smart signing as a way to plan for a future without Harry Kane and Son Heung-min. They are slowly approaching the age where a player can start to physically decline.
Moreover, they are also linked with moves away from N17 in recent weeks.
