Harry Kane postpones Tottenham Hotspur contract talks until after the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar

Harry Kane will wait until after the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar to resume contract talks at Tottenham Hotspur, as per the Evening Standard.

The England international is in the last year and a half of his contract at Spurs and could leave as a free agent in the summer of 2024. This is a situation Tottenham would want to desperately avoid.

Along with Eric Dier and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Spurs want to tie down Kane to a new deal – to no one’s surprise. However, the 29-year-old is said to be focused on the World Cup and finishing the first half of the season with the club.

A lot can change in that time. Kane doesn’t need any PR. He is one of the most lethal strikers in the world and has time and again shown that he can hack it at arguably any top team in the world.

What next for Harry Kane and Tottenham?

Bayern Munich have been linked with Kane recently after losing Robert Lewandowski to Barcelona this summer. There is nothing about the Englishman being linked to Real Madrid.

But Los Blancos have an ageing Karim Benzema who will not be able to play forever. As we have seen in the past, Madrid want and have what it takes to get the best there is.

Again, we can’t reiterate enough that he isn’t linked with the La Liga giants for now. But a player of his calibre cannot go unnoticed by the biggest football clubs in the world, for sure.

It’s important that we offer him terms that convince him to see out the remainder of his best footballing years at N17. He would still have the added motivation to win his first trophy with the English club and break Alan Shearer’s all-time Premier League goal-scoring record.
