Newcastle United could join Tottenham Hotspur in the race for Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez
Tottenham Hotspur could face competition from Newcastle United in their pursuit of Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez, as per Inter Live (h/t ChronicleLive).
The 25-year-old striker has been one of Inter’s best players in recent years. Martinez’s ability and age profile would attract teams all over Europe but Spurs have now been linked with him for a while.
Inter could accept an offer of €90million, which is apparently something the Magpies can afford. Manchester United have also been named as a potential suitor while Barcelona were linked with him this summer.
Spurs already have Harry Kane up front and Richarlison was signed this summer. The Brazil international, 25, is a significant investment made by the club and safeguards our attack for a lot of years.
However, we may have to prepare for the possibility that Kane leaves in the future. He is on a contract that expires in the summer of 2024.
It seems that things could go either way with regard to a potential renewal as he has put contract talks on a hold until after the FIFA World Cup. With Bayern Munich circling him, Spurs have to be prepared with an alternative if our legendary striker leaves in the near future.
Newcastle are an ambitious team with ambitious owners and a brilliant manager in Eddie Howe. However, they are arguably not a team that is in transition.
So are we, of course, but we are arguably further down the progression scale as compared to the Toons. If it comes down to these four teams, Spurs would have to do well to convince Lautaro to pick Spurs, especially if we retain Kane as well.
