Antonio Conte explains why Tottenham Hotspur resorted to crossing the ball so much vs Bournemouth

Tottenham Hotspur head coach Antonio Conte has explained why his side restored to crossing the ball into the box when they were 2-0 down at half-time against Bournemouth.

Spurs came back from two goals down in the second half against the Cherries last time out to win the game 3-2 with goals from Ryan Sessegnon, Ben Davies and Rodrigo Bentancur.

But, while the north London side had a poor first half, they resorted to crossing the ball into the opposition box in the second half. Two goals came from the corner kick, while other crosses failed to hit the target.

The north London side completed 53 crosses as compared to just nine by the Cherries at the Vitality Stadium. When quizzed about this after the game, this is what Conte had to say: (h/t Football. London)

My players have to understand we have to do what we try during the training session and not only because we are losing 2-0. We have to attack. We have to attack and not only defend our goal.”

Spurs looked like a completely different side in the second half. The north London side maintained their attacking mentality even 2-0 down and that was a really good sign from them.

In earlier games against Arsenal and Manchester United, Spurs lacked this mentality and failed to respond to setbacks. They had resorted to damage limitation exercises rather than

Hopefully, Spurs carry on this mentality for the rest of the season. Focus now shifts to the Champions League which sees the north London club travel to face Marseille for their last group-stage game.

It is all to play for all four teams in the group. Spurs need only one more point to qualify for the Round of 16, although the travelling fans will expect a similar result like the reverse fixture when their side won 2-0.
