Agent confirms Tottenham Hotspur were among clubs who turned down Khvicha Kvaratskhelia transfer in the past

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s agent Christian Emile has confirmed that Tottenham Hotspur and Juventus were amongst clubs that turned down the chance to sign the Georgian in the past.

A couple of years ago, Emile offered Kvaratskhelia to some of the teams in Europe. However, teams were unwilling to invest a lot of money in a young attacker who wasn’t a proven goal-getter in a top-five European league.

The agent was in conversation with Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano on YouTube when he was asked if Juventus and Spurs were among the clubs that turned down the Georgia international. The agent replied:

“All those clubs you mention, they were all interested in Kvaratskhelia. Most of the clubs you heard in the media in Germany, England, Italy, this was true.”

“Clubs were not so secure to spend this €20m on a player who they did not have much background information on because he was not coming from a big football country. He was not coming from Brazil, for example.”

One can’t blame clubs for being frugal when it came to spending their money during the Covid-19 pandemic. Tottenham couldn’t have known that Kvaratskhelia would burst onto the scene in such a manner.

Even if they did, then the price being quoted above isn’t a small amount to pay for a future prospect. Even Napoli got a deal done for the Georgian in the summer transfer window of 2022 – two and a half years after Covid broke out.

Khvicha has taken domestic and European football by storm. The fiery winger has sublime dribbling skills and impeccable decision-making in the final third for a player his age.

In total, the 21-year-old winger has scored eight goals and provided 10 assists in 17 games across competitions for the Neapolitan outfit. He is on a contract that expires at the end of the 2026-27 campaign (Transfermarkt).

Hence, it is safe to say the Serie A side would not want to part ways with him for a small fee if and when suitors come to the table for him.
