Tottenham Hotspur ready to make their move for Everton star Anthony Gordon in January
According to The Daily Mail, Chelsea have cooled their interest in Everton’s promising young attacker Anthony Gordon, paving the way for Tottenham Hotspur to make their move.
The 21-year-old has been an inspirational figure for Everton in what was a difficult 2021-22 campaign. His goals and perseverance played a key role in Frank Lampard’s side staving off relegation.
Gordon might have scored just thrice in 13 games this season but his worth ethic and determination more than make up for it. The youngster is still very much in his formative years and has much to develop in the decade to come.
Tottenham are coming off a promising summer transfer window that has seen them reinforce the squad in key areas. Spurs had been overly reliant on Harry Kane and Son Heung-min in attack the last few years. That was finally addressed this year.
Dejan Kulusevksi came in originally on loan last January before making his stay permanent in the summer. Richarlison joined the roster in the summer and has since settled in well at the N-17.
Both players are currently nursing injuries and were joined on the sidelines by Son last weekend. This leaves Conte with Harry Kane to lead the line. It is evident that the roster could do with one or two more attacking reinforcements.
Having enjoyed a fine start to the season, Tottenham have been subjected to a few stumbling blocks of late. Bringing in the right players in the 2023 January transfer window will aid Conte’s efforts to end the season strongly.
Tottenham are preparing a massive offer worth around £60m for the Merseyside star’s services. Should it go through, it will make him one of our most expensive purchases in history.
With Chelsea now cooling their interest, Daniel Levy should have a clear road ahead to make his move. Richarlison, Son, Lucas Moura, and Dejan Kulusevski’s injuries this campaign are a reminder that we need to have a bit more depth in attack.
Frank Lampard is keen to keep the player at Goodison Park and got his way in the summer. With Everton continuing to underachieve, it remains to be seen just how long they can stave off Tottenham from landing the player.
At 21, Gordon is young but experienced in the Premier League. A versatile attacker, he should slot in well at Tottenham. More so, he will also provide a long-term solution for the club and could become a first-team mainstay in the years to come.

The price quoted is certainly a lot for a player who is far from the finished product. However, no transfer is without its risks and for Tottenham, it is now or never.
