Thiago Alcantara makes flattering Tottenham Hotspur claim after Liverpool clash
Thiago Alcantara had nothing but respect for Tottenham Hotspur after Liverpool’s 2-1 win in north London on Sunday (6 November).
The Reds took a first-half two-goal lead via Mohamed Salah, who scored two clinical goals to help his team on their way to three points. Thiago was an important presence for Liverpool throughout the game.
The former Bayern Munich and Barcelona midfielder put in the yards on both ends of the pitch and was arguably the finest midfielder in the game. After the game, he was asked to analyse Tottenham’s performance.
The Spaniard refused to do so and had nothing but praise for Spurs, pointing out their record in Europe. He told Matchday Live (h/t Liverpool Echo):
“I am no-one to analyse Tottenham’s way of play for this season. I think they are doing amazing, you can see in the Champions League where they are.”
“You can see in the league where they are as well. It’s difficult, you are playing every three days with a World Cup around the corner and players could have their head 50% here and 50% there. We have to accept it’s a different situation.”
Spurs were, by no means, deserving of a loss. We created lots of chances. The only difference was that Liverpool took theirs and we didn’t take ours.
We have been great in Europe, winning our Champions League group and losing just once throughout the round. We are also still well in the top-four race even though winning the title seems like a long shot.
Thiago, hence, wasn’t just being diplomatic with his response. He was correct to hold that opinion. Liverpool were weakened by injuries but so were we.
