Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal, and Real Madrid among clubs linked with Lille striker Jonathan David

Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal, Everton, Manchester United, and Real Madrid are the five clubs that have been named as potential suitors for LOSC Lille Metropole striker Jonathan David, as per GiveMeSport (h/t Manchester Evening News).

The Canada international moved to Lille in the summer of 2020 and has since been a very valuable member of their team. His presence has helped fans overcome the blow of Victor Osimhen’s exit in the same summer transfer window.

David has nine goals and three assists in 14 games across competitions for Lille this campaign – a form that has alerted some of Europe’s biggest clubs, and Arsenal. The 22-year-old’s contract expires in the summer of 2025 (Transfermarkt).

The French outfit value him at around £40million, which isn’t the most exorbitant price tag for a player of his quality and age profile. Spurs recently signed Richarlison from Everton.

Jonathan David to Spurs?

However, Harry Kane’s contract situation is bound to make those at Spurs a little nervous with each passing week. His contract expires in the summer of 2024 and he has supposedly postponed any contract talks with Spurs until after the FIFA World Cup.

The 29-year-old is our talisman up front and along with Son Heung-min, the foundation of this Spurs team under manager Antonio Conte. Any potential exit has to be met with a big-name signing in that position.

That is the least Spurs fans will hope, although let’s hope we don’t get to that scenario, to begin with. It seems like this season is perhaps the most important season for Spurs to win a trophy in.

A top-four finish almost seems like a prerequisite in this day and age to keep hold of the best managers and players in the world. The same could be the situation with the likes of Conte, Kane and Son.

Even if we retain our best attackers next summer, adding David to our ranks will be useful. Our injury crisis up front has reminded us that we could perhaps do with another big-named addition to our attack.
