Manchester United urged to overlook Kylian Mbappe and sign Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane

Former Tottenham Hotspur striker Teddy Sherringham has urged Manchester United to ‘look no further than’ Spurs star Harry Kane if they want a new striker.

The England international is in the final two seasons of his current Spurs contract and at the age of 29, is yet to win a trophy at the club. United, meanwhile, would be aware that they have to start planning for a life without 37-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo.

Sherringham, who has played for both Spurs and Man United amongst other teams during his illustrious career, told Genting Casino (h/t the Express):

“You need players with professionalism, desire and focus and they should look no further than Harry Kane. They’re desperate for a focal point up front”

Regarding Kylian Mbappe of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), Sherringham doesn’t believe he is a player Manchester United need. He continued:

“I don’t think Mbappe is what United need. They already have ‘flitty’ players – if I can call them that – and need focused and determined players like Kane and [Declan] Rice. They may not be the most flair players but they do the right things at the right time.”

He has urged United to pay ‘over the top’ for Kane and not sign Mbappe as they already have players such as Antony and Marcus Rashford. Perhaps these comments wouldn’t please Spurs fans.

They wouldn’t want a former player to fill a Premier League rival with all sorts of ideas in their head. Kane is our prized possession and Daniel Levy would know that.

Losing him to the Red Devils would not only weaken us but also solve a huge striking problem for a direct rival for the Lilywhites. Hopefully, we can get our talisman to renew his deal and if not, then at least hold onto him until the 2023-24 campaign ends.
