Tottenham Hotspur transfer target Memphis Depay will not extend Barcelona contract
Tottenham Hotspur wanted to sign Memphis Depay from Barcelona in the summer transfer window. The Netherlands international does not plan to extend his contract at Camp Nou, as per Mundo Deportivo (h/t the Express).
Manchester United were also interested in re-signing the Netherlands international and the two Premier League clubs could now be alerted by this latest update. The player apparently wants to leave for free in the January transfer window.
He is in the last year of his contract and could prove to be a very good buy for any of his potential suitors. Depay is just 28 and still in his prime years.
He is also very versatile and can play anywhere across the frontline. Those who have seen him play would know all about his playmaking and finishing ability.
Depay to Spurs?
We’ve had our injury issues up front his campaign and adding a player of Depay’s ilk would surely benefit us. He is currently out with a thigh injury which has restricted him to just three appearances across competitions for Barcelona this season.
Regardless of that, he isn’t being preferred over Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha, and Ousmane Dembele. Hopefully, that pushes him to force a move and make a return to the Premier League.
Returning to Manchester United could also be an enticing prospect for him. The Red Devils may also be on the lookout for an option up front if and when Cristiano Ronaldo leaves.
