Tottenham Hotspur’s Pape Matar Sarr happy with 2022 FIFA World Cup selection
Tottenham Hotspur’s Pape Matar Sarr has taken to Instagram to reveal his happiness in being selected in the squad to represent Senegal at Qatar World Cup 2022 and has claimed that he is looking forward to it.
Spurs signed the talented 20-year-old from FC Metz in 2021 and was loaned back to the club for the entirety of last season. He is yet to make a first-team breakthrough with Tottenham though and is playing with the reserve team.
Very highly rated when Spurs first signed him, Sarr still has his entire footballing career ahead of him. The fact that he is already picked to represent Senegal shows how much quality he possesses.
Sarr has already played 10 games for his national team till now. He will be hoping to add those caps in Qatar when given a chance and an impressive showing will make the world take notice of the youngster.
It could also show Antonio Conte that maybe he needs to start trusting the youngster more and at least give him a bit-part role in the first team. A positive World Cup campaign could go a long way in doing that.
Sarr took to Instagram to reveal his delight at making the World Cup squad and the 20-year-old could not hide his excitement. (His original caption was in French, which has been translated via the platform’s in-built translator.)
“An immense pride to be able to represent my country in the biggest competition. We’ll do everything to make you proud! “
Sarr is one of 11 Spurs players who have been selected to represent their countries in the Qatar World Cup with players like Harry Kane, Son Heung-Min, Richarlison, Eric Dier, and Pierre Emile-Hojbjerg all making the list amongst others.
As much as he will want them to do well, Conte will be hoping none of the players away on international duty get injured and all of them come back fit, firing and ready for the second half of the season.
