Dejan Kulusevski labels Tottenham Hotspur star Rodrigo Bentancur ‘one of the most underrated players in the world’
Tottenham Hotspur forward Dejan Kulusevski has labelled teammate Rodrigo Bentancur “one of the most underrated players in the world”. The Sweden international joined Spurs alongside the Uruguayan in the recent January transfer window.
The North London side took on Leeds United in the Premier League on Sunday (13 November) at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. And it was another nervy day at the office for the home crowd as Spurs left it late to win the game.
Jesse Marsch’s team took the lead in the 10th minute. Kane equalised for us in the first half, but the Peacocks regained their one-goal advantage just before the break.
Ben Davies got the North London side on a level pegging early in the second half. But unfortunately, Rodrigo Moreno completed his brace in the 76th minute to break the home crowd’s heart once again.
Thankfully for Tottenham, Bentancur was on hand to save the day. The 25-year-old beat Ilan Meslier twice in quick succession in the 80th minute to give us a 4-3 lead. And in the end, Antonio Conte’s team got the win.
Speaking to BBC Match of the Day (h/t Evening Standard), Kulusevski was delighted with the three points. The 22-year-old reserved special praise for “fantastic” Bentancur. The 22-year-old feels the Spurs midfielder is not appreciated enough.
“When we were 3-3, I said in my head that the next time I get the ball I am going to shoot and I am going to score.
“But then it was a different situation and I saw Rodri alone, and I just pray to God that he will score and he did. He is a fantastic player, one of the most underrated players in the world. I am very happy for him.”
Both Kulusevksi and Bentacur were teammates at Juventus before their switch to Tottenham. And the duo have had an immediate impact under Conte since their signing.
Spurs’ midfield is stacked with robust players like Yves Bissouma, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Oliver Skipp. However, the Uruguayan provides the team with much-needed creativity in the middle of the park.

The 25-year-old is having a fruitful campaign this term. Bentancur was also vital against AFC Bournemouth a few weeks back, as he handed the North London side the victory in the dying minutes at the Vitality Stadium.
