Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane won the Golden Boot for England at the 2018 FIFA World Cup. He would have surely traded it for a chance to play in the final of the competition.

But it was a neat little trophy to add to his trophy cabinet. Kane netted six times in the competition to take home the trophy and is aiming to repeat the feat in Qatar.

Speaking in an interview on the England national team’s official departure show, the 29-year-old centre-forward said (h/t England Football):

“The main aim is to win the tournament and bring the trophy home and if I get the golden boot along the way then that would be incredible. It’s [golden boot] not the main thing I’m going for, but if I end up with the golden boot then it’ll be good for the team.”

England are one of the first teams to play in the tournament as they take on Iran on November 21. They have Wales and the USA to take on later on in what is a fairly easy group for them.

Make no mistake, every game at such a level is a difficult one but if England were handed these opponents before the draw was made, they’d have happily taken it.

Eric Dier is another Spurs star that is expected to make manager Gareth Southgate’s starting XI more often than not. It remains to be seen if he sticks with Harry Maguire despite his struggles at Manchester United, or if he starts Dier instead.

Alternatively, Dier, Maguire, and John Stones can also start together in a back three. A World Cup for Dier and Kane would be a World Cup for Spurs fans in some way as well.

Kane is yet to win a trophy in senior football. It would be amazing if the World Cup is his first one.
