Tottenham Hotspur told to avoid signing Everton forward Anthony Gordon
According to the Times (Subscription Required) earlier this month, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Everton winger Anthony Gordon ahead of the January transfer window.
This summer, Chelsea and Spurs both showed interest in the Englishman, and the Blues were prepared to pay up to £60million. If that price tag remains, former Spurs goalkeeper has urged manager Antonio Conte to stay away.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former England international said:
“If we are talking about £60million again, I think that is a lot of money. He still has a lot to prove for me. I do not think he is the finished article by a long way.”
“If Everton get £60m for him they should take it. He is yet to convince at the top level. He is a good player but is he a £60m player? I think he is a young player who is still proving himself. Spurs should not go spending £60million on him, in my opinion.”
Gordon is good and he is talented. But for the price mentioned above? No chance. That is the same amount of money that the Lilywhites paid to the Toffees for Richarlison.
And the Brazil international is way more proven at the club and international level as compared to Gordon, who has had a very poor season under manager Frank Lampard.
He has netted thrice in 15 games across competitions this campaign but has failed to make himself a regular threat up front for Everton. Moreover, he was dropped to the bench by Lampard in Everton’s last two league games.
It shows that the English tactician isn’t quite happy with Gordon’s displays. Now the thing here is, Gordon could perhaps be more open to being a bench player at Spurs – who play in the UEFA Champions League – than Everton, who are battling mid-table obscurity.

But the price needs to be sensible. Spurs cannot go around spending that sort of money when they still need to reinforce their defence – especially in the centre-back and the right-wing back positions.
