Ciro Venetaro claims that Arsenal have joined Tottenham Hotspur in the race for Nicolo Zaniolo
Journalist Ciro Venetaro via Sportwitness (h/t Football. London) has claimed that Arsenal have joined Tottenham Hotspur in the race for AS Roma midfielder Nicolo Zaniolo.
The 23-year-old has been a long-term interest for Spurs and was even linked with a move to north London this summer. However, nothing came of such rumours.
Zaniolo sees his current contract expire in 2024. And according to Calciomercato, talks are not going very well between the two parties, with the Italian side happy to let the player leave for a fee close to £35 million.
Antonio Conte could do with a young and talented player like the 23-year-old. While Spurs have some impressive options to deploy up front, recent injuries have proven it to be otherwise.
With the likes of Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison getting injured, the substitutes have not been able to step up. Lucas Moura looks way past his prime, while Bryan Gil is still far from being a starter.
Zaniolo has been an important player for Jose Mourinho this season. The attacking midfielder has played in 14 games so far this season in all competitions, scoring two goals and registering three assists in the process.
Getting in a player like the 23-year-old would be helpful in multiple ways. It would help to add depth to the squad and increase competition for a spot in the playing XI. Should he join, the Italian could spend his prime years at the north London club.

But with Arsenal also joining the race, it won’t be easy for Spurs to land the player. Fans will hope that if the player does arrive in north London, it is in Lilywhites’ colours.
