Morocco star and Tottenham Hotspur summer target Hakim Ziyech does not rule out Chelsea exit in January
Chelsea and Morocco star Hakim Ziyech, who Tottenham Hotspur were targeting in the summer of 2022, does not rule out a January exit from the Blues. The 29-year-old is not sure about his future.
Spurs were interested in bringing the playmaker to North London in the recent transfer window. On deadline day, Antonio Conte’s team were linked with his signature. However, a deal failed to materialise.
Speaking to Netherlands outlet NOS via Metro (h/t football.london), Ziyech expressed uncertainty when he was asked whether he could be on his way to Holland in the winter.
“It’s hard to say, difficult to say. We don’t know what will happen in the winter. It’s football, so it’s difficult to say.”
The Moroccan joined the Stamford Bridge side in the summer of 2020 from Ajax. However, he has struggled to make an impact in West London in his time under various managers.
In the Eredivisie, the 29-year-old made his name first with FC Twente and then with the Amsterdam-based club. And the playmaker enjoyed five successful years with De Godenzonen before Chelsea pounced on him.
Currently, Ziyech is with the Moroccan national side in Qatar. The Atlas Lions registered a 0-0 draw with Croatia on Wednesday (23 November) in their opening fixture of Group F in Qatar. The 29-year-old started the match but failed to impress.
Tottenham have a stacked midfield with the likes of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Rodrigo Bentancur, Yves Bissouma and Oliver Skipp, amongst other stars fighting for their place in Conte’s XI. However, apart from the Uruguayan, they are not known for their attacking play.
In recent weeks, Spurs’ form has dipped. We have failed to keep pace with the Premier League table toppers and North London rivals Arsenal. And Bentancur has had to bail us out on occasions.

Thus, Tottenham evidently need to add more creativity in the final third. And if the Italian gaffer is confident of being able to bring the best out of Ziyech, he would be a welcome addition to the squad.
